The Toyota TS040 Hybrid is a sports car prototype that was developed and built by Toyota according to LMP1 regulations . The car is the successor to the Toyota TS030 Hybrid used in the FIA World Endurance Championship in 2012 and 2013 .
development
In order to continue to participate in the FIA World Endurance Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans , Toyota has announced the development of the TS040 according to new regulations. The vehicle was unveiled to the public on March 27, 2014, and the Toyota made its racing debut during the 6 Hours of Silverstone on April 20.
Furthermore, the Toyota TS040 uses high-performance capacitors to store the electrically recovered energy, compared to its predecessor, the TS040 has an electric motor on each axle.
Various parts of the Toyota were revised for the 2015 FIA World Endurance Championship. The hybrid drive has been improved, so that the Toyota uses the 6 megajoules more than last year. The revised model is also gentler on the tires. Overall, compared to the previous year, 80% of the parts of the Toyota were revised.
Races
2014
Toyota fielded two TS040 vehicles in the 2014 FIA World Endurance Championship including the 24 Hours of Le Mans . The cars were able to achieve 4 pole positions and 5 race victories, at Le Mans the TS040 did not get beyond third place due to technical problems.
After the 6-hour race in São Paulo, Toyota was able to secure the constructors 'title of the endurance world championship; the drivers' title was won by Toyota drivers Sébastien Buemi and Anthony Davidson .
2015
As in the previous year, Toyota used two vehicles. In contrast to 2014, 2015 was a rather disappointing year for Toyota. The technical progress that Porsche and Audi had made was too great for the revised TS040, so that it was hardly competitive. The best results were a third place in Silverstone and a third place in Bahrain.
