Joe Foster (born November 3, 1965 in Orange ) is an American racing car driver and racing driver instructor.

Racing career

Joe Foster's driving career began in Europe, where he competed in the British Formula 3 Championship in 1985 . After participating in eleven races on a Ralt RT30 registered by Murray Taylor Racing , he remained without points in the final ranking of the championship (overall winner Maurício Gugelmin ). After the end of the season he had a car accident in England that interrupted his career for many years.

Joe Foster returned to the United States and, after completing medical rehabilitation that led to full recovery from the consequences of the accident, began studying at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta , completing a Masters of Mechanical Engineering . Before he got back to work as a driver, he was chief driving instructor at the Panoz Racing School and at the Miller Performance Training Center at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele for many years . There the actor and future racing driver Patrick Dempsey was one of his students.

In 1997 Foster returned to the racetracks as a driver. After starting in a monoposto series , he drove for different teams in races in the American Le Mans Series from 1999 . He celebrated his greatest successes in the Grand-Am Sports Car Series , in which he won second place overall in 2007 and the overall ranking of the Koni Challenge GS in 2008. Foster competed three times in the 24 Hours of Le Mans , always with his former student Patrick Dempsey as a partner. The best place was the 22nd final place in 2014 .
