Zur is the name of three people in the Old Testament .

etymology

The name Zur ( Hebrew צוּר ṣûr ) means "(God) is rock". It is the short form of the name Zuriël ( Hebrew צוּרִיאֵל ṣûrî'el ), which means "God is rock". The meaning of the Hebrew name Zur corresponds to that of the Greek name Petrus ("rock").

Zur, father of the Kosbi

A Midianite clan chief named Zur is mentioned in Num 25.15  EU . He is the father of Kosbi who, after marrying an Israelite, the Simeonite Zimri , is killed by Pinchas, the son of the high priest.

Zur, King of Midian

One of the five kings of Midian named Zur is mentioned in Num 31.8  EU and Jos 13.21  EU . He falls in the battle of Moses against the Midianites. This conquered the East Bank.

To, Saul's ancestor

A Benjaminite and ancestor of King Saul is mentioned in 1 Chr 8.30  EU and 1 Chr 9.36  EU . He lived in Gibeon .
