Ratchet & Clank is an American-Canadian computer-animated 3D - science fiction film by Kevin Munroe , who on the same video game series from Insomniac Games is based. Insomniac Games helped with film production, scripting, character development and animation. However, the film contains an independent scenario and was based on a script by Insomniac Games writer TJ Fixman.

As a voice actor were, among others, James Arnold Taylor , David Kaye , Jim Ward , Paul Giamatti , Bella Thorne , John Goodman , Rosario Dawson, Andrew Cownden and Sylvester Stallone committed. In addition, some actors from the games lend their voices to the characters in the film. The film opened on April 29, 2016 in the USA, in Germany one day earlier.

The film tells a separate story that retells the events of the video game series. Ratchet first meets Clank as they try to save the Solana galaxy from destruction by Chairman Drek and the Blarg. The film was produced by Rainmaker Entertainment in Vancouver. Michael Hefferon, President of Rainmaker Entertainment, served as executive producer .

The film was originally supposed to be released in 2015. The release was later dated April 29, 2016 in the US by Gramercy Pictures , a division of Focus Features . To accompany the film, Insomniac Games promised the release of a new edition of the game series. Since Sony Computer Entertainment merged with Sony Network Entertainment International to become Sony Interactive Entertainment on April 1, 2016 , Sony Computer Entertainment is no longer the production company of Ratchet & Clank .
