Insomniac Games, Inc. (English insomniac , "sleepless") is a US company that in the past has mainly developed games for Sony's PlayStation , PlayStation 2 and PlayStation 3 . The company is led by CEO Ted Price; senior programmers are Alex and Brian Hastings.

history

Insomniac Games was founded in 1994 as an independent game developer. The company is based in Burbank , California . After Insomniac had published the game Disruptor in 1996 , it made the breakthrough from 1998 to 2000 with the first three parts of the Spyro series, which was later continued by other developers and also on other platforms.

Since 2002 Insomniac has also been very successful in producing the Ratchet & Clank series, which already has nine parts (the first four were released for PlayStation 2 , the fifth and seventh for PSP , the sixth, eighth and ninth for PS3 .). This series was also transferred to other platforms by other developers: At the end of 2005, a mobile game from the “Ratchet & Clank” universe was released and distributed by Jamba . In 2006, Resistance: Fall of Man was the first PlayStation 3 first person shooter from Insomniac Games to hit the market.

On June 10, 2013, the development studio announced for the first time in its history the collaboration with a console manufacturer other than Sony : The game Sunset Overdrive was released on November 1, 2014 exclusively for Microsoft's Xbox One , with Microsoft also acting as the publisher for the title. The game reached gold status on October 10, 2014.

Relationship with Naughty Dog

Insomniac Games has a close partnership with the Naughty Dog development team , who developed the Crash Bandicoot and Jak-and-Daxter series. The games of both developers are very similar and contain references to each other. Demo versions of games from one company are often included with games from the other company. Ratchet & Clank 2 also uses a modified version of the engine from Jak 2 , the second Jak-and-Daxter part.
