Beginnings

Naughty Dog was founded in 1986 by Andy Gavin and Jason Rubin at the age of 16 as JAM Software. The first title was a ski game called Ski Crazed for the Apple II . This was followed in 1988 by a graphics adventure called Dream Zone , which was the first game to support the VGA standard.

In 1989 Keef the Thief appeared , which was distributed by Electronic Arts . During this time, JAM Software changed its name to Naughty Dog before Keef the Thief was released . Rings of Power was released for the Sega Mega Drive in 1992 .

The two then split when Andy Gavin began studying at MIT and Jason Rubin moved to Newport Beach and the company went bankrupt. But in 1993 Naughty Dog got together again in Boston and developed Way of the Warrior for the 3DO . Universal Interactive Studios took the title and marketed it in 1994. Naughty Dog then signed a contract with Universal for three projects and moved to Los Angeles . One of the projects was Crash Bandicoot , which was the breakthrough for the company.

In 1996 Naughty Dog developed Crash Bandicoot for the PlayStation . The character developed into an unofficial mascot for the console. Two sequels and the fun racer Crash Team Racing followed. In total, the Crash series sold 21.5 million times. After the crash parts, Naughty Dog developed the Jak and Daxter computer game series , which was released for the PlayStation 2 . In January 2001, Sony announced that it would buy Naughty Dog.
