Michael Dorn (born December 9, 1952 in Luling , Texas ) is an American actor , voice actor and director . He was best known for his role as the Klingon Worf in Star Trek .

Life

Michael Dorn grew up in Pasadena , California . He studied radio and TV production engineering at Pasadena City College. From there he started a musical career. He performed with various rock bands.

The actor owns a number of aircraft, including an old Air Force T-33 Shooting Star trainer jet, an F-86 Saber, and a Sabreliner twin-engine jet.

Career

Beginnings

Michael Dorn made his first appearance as an actor in the mid-1970s as a guest on the TV show WEB. The producer was so impressed by his work that he introduced him to an agent. This put him in contact with the acting teacher Charles Conrad, with whom he took lessons for six months. His first film role followed in 1976 when he played the role of Apollo Creed's bodyguard in Rocky . From 1977 to 1983 he was in the television series CHiPs as a patrol officer Jebediah Turner to see alongside Erik Estrada and Larry Wilcox .

Star Trek

His most famous role to date was that of Klingon Worf in Starship Enterprise: The Next Century and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine . In several interviews, Dorn said that he was interested in the role because he wanted to get rid of the image of the "nice guy" that he had previously built up with his television roles.

When auditioning for the role, he acted as he imagined a Klingon warrior. When he was called, he marched into the room, stared, and shook the interviewer's hand violently. Then he left the room without a word and slammed the door behind him. The director is said to have called out: “The perfect Klingon. I want him!"

Dorn starred as the same character in more episodes of the series than any other Star Trek actor. He played his character's grandfather in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Land , the last of the Star Trek films to cast the original series. He was the defense attorney for Kirk and McCoy at their show trial on Qo'noS.

He also worked as a director and staged three episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine from 1997 to 1999 and an episode of Star Trek: Enterprise in 2002 .

More roles

Through the Star Trek series, Michael Dorn gained international fame and as a result also received roles in other projects such as the Christmas film The Santa Clause 2 and its sequel , in which he played the role of Sandman . He also played a pilot in Ali . He is also active as a voice actor for cartoon series. Dorn made advertising appearances for a shampoo from the "Neutrogena" brand and a car brand. He was also featured with the stars of Starship Enterprise: The Next Century Jonathan Frakes and Patrick Stewart in the episode Peter's Got Woods of the series Family Guy and a guest character was drawn after him in the South Park episode 83 (season 6 , Episode 4: Vaginitis without veal ), which he did not synchronize himself.

On August 7, 2012, he started a crowdfunding project on Kickstarter.com under the title Through the Fire with the aim of collecting 750,000 US dollars for a film project that he wanted to realize together with other former Star Trek actors. But not enough money was raised so that the project was discontinued.

In 2014, Dorn spoke the computer of the mirror universe in the fan-produced Star Trek episode "Fairest of Them All"

Others

Since the series Spaceship Enterprise: The Next Century , Raimund Krone has been cast as the regular spokesman for Dorn, who also spoke him in all Star Trek films, Deep Space Nine , Heros , Castle and Transformers , as well as in the video games.
