Erik Estrada
Erik Estrada (* 16th March 1949 in New York City as Henry Enrique Estrada ) is an American actor with Puerto Rican roots.
Life
The series CHiPs (1977-1983), in which he portrayed the motorcycle policeman Francis 'Ponch' Poncherello , made Estrada a television star and teen idol. In the meantime, he left the series because of a dispute with second lead actor Larry Wilcox , but returned after a while. Since the disputes, in which it was mostly about the fee, continued, Larry Wilcox later left the series, which was canceled shortly afterwards due to a massive drop in ratings .
After CHiPs ended , Estrada struggled to gain a foothold in Hollywood and get good roles. He often appeared in series such as Die Nanny , Cybill , Sabrina - Totally Verhext! , Again and again Jim , Scrubs , To Worse and Forever, and Diagnosis: Murder , in which he parodied his image as a failed ex-star . In 1993 he got a guest appearance on the series Two Super Guys in Miami . In the episode Die Rache des Gonzales , he embodied, as an opponent of Bud Spencer, a breakaway. In the episode Deadly Game , Bud Spencer had him jailed.
He can also be seen frequently in Mexican television productions, although despite his Puerto Rican roots he does not speak Spanish and his text has to be read to him via a button in his ear. In 1993 he played a leading role in the Mexican telenovela Dos mujeres, un camino , which earned him a high salary and again a little more popularity.
In 1998, he and Larry Wilcox appeared in the TV special CHiPs '99 , despite previous disputes . From 2000 to 2005 he played the role of the stereotypical Latino Marco Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar Gabriel Garcia Marquez in the US comedy cartoon show Sealab 2021 .
Erik Estrada is third married and has three children. He is active against drugs and the cigarette industry.
