Sealab 2021 is an American animated series . The 1972 Hanna Barbera series Sealab 2020 was composed into new episodes and dubbed anew .

content

The series takes place a year after the events of Sealab 2020 . During that time interval, the station's crew appears to have gone insane and incompetent due to various factors. Their hobbies consist primarily of verbally abusing each other, hindering their work or having to obey a fantasy of the senile captain. Sadism , sexism , racism , lack of political correctness , listlessness , drug addiction and other morally reprehensible issues dominate the content and make the team as a totally incompetent force is what should exercise not the professions represented. Dr Quinn is the only character who seems to be in his right mind, but the stupidity of the rest of the group constantly weighs on him too.

The crew mostly follows their own interests and these do not take into account the reason for the existence of the Sealab in any way .

main characters

  • Captain Hazel "Hank" Murphy is the leader of the crew. He seems senile and almost exclusively follows his own interests, which the crew has to follow without hesitation. Once obsessed with an idea, he usually leads the entire station into chaos. He is unsuitable for his office as captain in several respects, in some cases he is not even aware of his function. He always acts according to intuition and can only rarely follow the topics covered on the ward.
  • Doctor Quentin Q. Quinn is the last remaining member of the station. He is a highly skilled scientist, but despite an IQ of 260 and common sense, it is not easy for him to save his colleagues from himself. As the only thinking part of the crew, it is usually important to him to scientifically substantiate and refute the ideas of his employees in order to achieve a rethink. However, he rarely succeeds in doing this.
  • Debbie DuPree ( aka White Debbie ) is a marine biologist, a beautiful blonde and the only female member of the crew, along with another woman named "Debbie". As an emancipated woman, on the one hand she gets upset about her male colleagues when they show chauvinistic behavior, on the other hand she often acts stereotypically .
  • Debbie Love ( aka Black Debbie ) is the station's teacher, and she and Quinn are the station's only Afro-American characters. She is proud of the color of her skin, but because of it she has to take swipes from her colleagues.
  • Derek "Stormy" Waters is the handsome guy of the main characters. His low intelligence often leads him to let himself be infected by any topic of the crew or to continue spinning them on even at the lowest level. In addition, he firmly believes that he is the smartest member of the crew.
  • Jodene Sparks is the sarcastic, sadistic, selfish plan- making radio operator . He shares space with Captain Murphy on the bridge and either gives him false information or sends him and the entire crew to their doom. He is never shown standing or walking, but exclusively seated. His headset is his constant companion.
  • Marco Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar Gabriel Garcia Marquez is the on-board engineer and would-be Latin lover . The contents of his statements are mostly empty and mainly aim at his origin. He has a large vocabulary of flirting lines and uses this at every opportunity. Marco is particularly vain and has a hypertrophic muscle body.
  • Hesh Hepplewhite works in the reactor room and usually speaks of himself in the third person. Because of his high-pitched voice, virtually nobody in the crew takes him seriously. His interests are also comparable to those of a pubescent boy.
  • Captain Bellerophon "Tornado" Shanks got the position for the captain because of a job advertisement. He is a former football coach and follows Captain Murphy .

Episodes

The series consists of 52 episodes divided into four seasons. Each of these seasons has 13 episodes, and all of the episodes aired on the adult swim block on Cartoon Network.

German episodes

Only one episode from each of the first three seasons was dubbed and broadcast. They all celebrated their broadcast on the TNT Comedy channel, which is also responsible for far more adult swim content in Germany. For the fact that the show ran between 2000 and 2005, these three episodes only came to light in 2017. The reasons for this are unknown.

Production and publication

The series was produced from 2000 to 2005 by 70/30 Productions and Williams Street based on an idea and directed by Adam Reed and Matt Thompson . The music is from Chris Ward.

It was first broadcast from December 21, 2000 to April 25, 2005 by Cartoon Network in the Adult Swim format . Warner Home Video also released the series on DVD.
