Larry Wilcox (born August 8, 1947 in San Diego , California ) is an American actor, best known for his leading role in the American police series CHiPs .

Career

During his acting apprenticeship, he already appeared in several commercials. In 1972 he got a role as Dale Mitchell in the popular television series Lassie . He remained loyal to the series until 1974 and from then on played several small guest roles in television series and films. In 1977 he got the role of the main actor Jon Baker in the successful television series CHiPs , to which he remained loyal until 1982 - despite many differences with Erik Estrada , who played his partner Frank Poncherello there . The police series was only a stopgap solution for him, as his role in the film Rich and Poor was temporarily transferred to Nick Nolte. As a good motorcyclist, rider and racing driver, however, Wilcox was excellently suited for the role in the police series. He did many stunts himself, but often injured himself. In 1980 he received $ 25,000 per episode.

Life

Larry was born a twin with his sister Marlene Harmon Wilcox in California. After his parents divorced, he and his father moved to live with his grandfather at his grandfather's Flying Diamond ranch in Rawlins, Wyoming. However, shortly afterwards his father died. His mother worked as a secretary. After graduating from Rawlins High School, Larry moved to Los Angeles and worked there alongside his acting studies. In 1967 he joined the US Marines Corps Reserve and served 13 months in Vietnam . He worked his way up to sergeant there . In 1970 he continued his actor training in LA again, albeit with little success.

He married Judy Wagner on March 29, 1969 and had two children with her: Derek and Heidi. After almost 10 years, he got divorced. In 1980 he married again, on April 11, 1980 he said yes to Hannie Strasser, a Danish woman he had met while filming CHiPs . With her he got Wendy. A short time later the divorce took place here too. He married his current wife Harlene Harmon Wilcox on April 22, 1986 and had two children with her: Ryan and Chad. He lives with her on his ranch in the San Fernando Valley, not far from Los Angeles.
