Two super guys in Miami (also: Extralarge ) is a twelve-part television series that was filmed largely in the USA from 1990 to 1993 as a co-production by RTL plus and RAI . Bud Spencer plays the main character, private detective and ex- cop Jack Costello . As his partner Dumas , Philip Michael Thomas can be seen in the first season and Michael Winslow in the second season . Directed in the first season Enzo G. Castellari , in the second season Alessandro Capone .
main characters
Jack Costello
Jack Costello, also known as Extralarge, a former cop, is an excellent detective. He is embodied by Bud Spencer. He solves difficult cases and has no problem suspecting notable people. In doing so, he often moves illegally. He can handle his fists as well as weapons. Costello is - at least externally - not to be disturbed by anything.
His hobbies include fishing and making music: he plays the saxophone in a jazz band .
Dumas
Jean Philippe Yannick Dumas, the partner (actually more like an assistant) of Jack Costello, is not quite as bright as the latter. He tends to get on the nerves of those around him (especially Costello). Dumas is often offended because he is not privy to the details of the case and is constantly waiting for his opportunity to show that he is actually as good a detective as his role model Extralarge. However, he usually has to do hard work. Although Dumas is mostly just an annoying appendage for him, Jack knows that he can always rely on him in an emergency.
Dumas is a talented draftsman and managed to publish the comic book series "Extralarge" during the course of the first season. But later he moved to Paris.
Dumas No. 2: Actually called Archiebald and the son of Extralarge's best friend from police times. When he dies during an operation, he asks Extralarge to take his son in and teach him everything a private detective needs to know. Costello then calls him Dumas "because it is easier to remember".
Both Dumas were lovers of good cuisine and also enjoyed cooking themselves.
Maria Martinez
Maria is the landlady who sublet Jack Costello lives with. She is a very choleric person.
A running gag is that Maria regularly (according to her own statement) spends hours behind the stove to prepare a particularly delicious meal for Jack and Dumas, which is then spurned for various reasons, whereupon Maria often promises to "never cook again" .
Inspector Sam
Sam is a friend of Jack Costello's who works in the police force. Jack regularly helps him solve difficult cases. In return, he gets information from Sam.
Like Jack, Sam loves fishing.

success

Bud Spencer fans criticize the lack of action (there are only a few of the spanking scenes typical of Spencer, as Jack Costello he often faces the criminals armed) as well as the portrayal of Costello's partner Dumas.
criticism
The beautiful one with the little touch
"Although the main actors show their funny side, just a thin crime thriller with a holey plot, thick clichés and ancient gags."
The formula of death
“Second part of the series; Fast-paced, but simply knitted and annoying because of his clumsy enemy image. "
The child killer
“Exciting, but with numerous clichés and inconsistencies; in which the actual stars Spencer and Thomas only play supporting roles. "
DVD
In 2004 , all episodes of the series were released as German-language DVDs by ems new media AG . The success of the DVDs, however, was rather moderate and the series turned into a loss for ems.
