Wolfgang Hess (born September 1, 1937 in Zurich ; † April 27, 2016 ) was a Swiss actor and voice actor . Hess became famous as the voice actor for Bud Spencer in many of his films.

Life

Wolfgang Hess was the son of the Swiss film actor Emil Hess (1889–1945) and his German wife Elisabeth Ellinghaus. Until the end of the Second World War he lived in Berlin with his parents, the two brothers Urs and Migg, and half-sister Ruth. Then the family was evacuated to Leutasch in Tyrol. They came to Switzerland in the last days of the war. The father died of an infection shortly after arriving in Zurich.

The fatherless family took up residence in the university quarter in Zurich in the vicinity of other emigrated, German-speaking actors who had found a platform on the only open stage in Europe. The mother later took over the hotel "Mon Repos" on Universitätsstrasse, where actors and students came and went. After obtaining the federal Matura , Wolfgang first completed a banking internship at UBS in Zurich before studying theater and newspaper studies as well as German language and literature in Munich for five semesters . Engagements at theaters in Munich, Zurich and Stuttgart followed . However, Hess became better known for his grating voice, which he used as a narrator in countless films, television series, radio plays and documentaries. In addition to Bud Spencer, he has also appeared frequently for Marcello Mastroianni , El Hedi ben Salem , John Rhys-Davies , Charles Bronson , Michael Lonsdale and Michael Gambon .

Wolfgang Hess died on April 27, 2016 at the age of 78. The funeral service took place in the forest cemetery in Munich . Only 2 months later, on June 27, 2016, Bud Spencer, whom Hess often lent his voice, died.
