action

The Detroit National Bank was relieved of $ 20 million in 1978 by three gangsters . The police officers charged with the case, Doug Bennet and Steve Forrest, were never able to completely resolve the case. One of the gangsters - Joe Garret - was caught and sentenced. From the second gangster - Ralph Duran - a corpse was found charred beyond recognition and from the third gangster - the driver Philips - and the prey has been missing every trace since then. When Garret is released from prison after 7 years and murdered a short time later, Doug re-investigates the case. With a trick he succeeds in luring his then partner Steve back into the police force just in case. Both are assigned to their then chief Tanney. First of all, the two succeed in shutting down a handbag gang that makes the bus connection between the airport and Miami- Downtown unsafe.

Doug and Steve now look around the hotel and hotel room that Garret had rented. You learn that after Garret someone called " Sitting Bull " rented this very room. It quickly turns out that it was an Indian named Charro. Charro tells them that he sat in the same cell with Garret and that Garret had enough incriminating material to extort his share of the attack from his then partner. This should live in Miami under a new identity and be extremely rich. Furthermore, Charro gives them the saying “The eagle secures your future!” With them on the way.

Now the two investigators get stuck in their case, but by chance they find out that some data from Robert Delman - a major industrialist in Miami - almost exactly match those of the gangsters involved in the robbery. The suspicion arises that the charred corpse was not Ralph Duran but Philips. The real Duran underwent facial surgery after the robbery and began his new life as Robert Delman. To prove it, Doug breaks at night secretly in Delmans Golf Club in order to fingerprints to arrive, but caught by the men. Doug and Steve tell Chief Tanney of their suspicions. He doesn't really want to believe that at first, but gives his OK for further research.

The next day, the two investigators storm Delman's house in a spectacular way by landing in a helicopter on his property while he is having a party with many other "big animals". They tell Delman of their suspicion and suggest that he give them his fingerprints for comparison, if he supposedly has nothing to fear. Delman seems cooperative at first, but has to make a phone call before he goes with Doug and Steve. He has a conversation with Tanney's manager about what Doug and Steve are accusing him of. Because of his relationships, Delman is believed and Doug and Steve are suspended. Tanney is expected to resign.

After Doug and Steve have come to terms with the suspension, they want to return to their actual workplaces and take a taxi to the airport. But at a red light Steve sees an advertising sign with a depicted eagle and the imprint “The eagle secures your future!”. You remember that such a sign was also hanging in front of the hotel room Garret had checked into. They drive back to the hotel and Charro unscrews the bird. Under the cover you will find an envelope with a signed street map and a cassette. A copy of this will be sent to Delman. This is the first time he starts to sweat, because there is a recording on the tape that clearly proves that he is the wanted criminal. Charro arranges a meeting with Delman at which he is supposed to pay $ 20 million for the originals. However, Delman does not think of paying and rounds up his men.

In the evening the two meet in a warehouse. Doug and Steve wait for the situation in the background. Delman first shoots Charro, but is overwhelmed by him because Charro has previously put on a bulletproof vest . Now it comes to an exchange of blows between Doug, Steve and Delman's people, from the former emerge victorious and then arrest Delman. After the fight and the arrival of the police officers, Doug sees Ireen again, a mediator who helped solve the case and who also works for the FBI . Irene congratulates both of them and Chief Tanney is spared the resignation. The final sequence shows Doug and Steve at the airport, where they say goodbye in friendship.
