Raúl Juliá
Raúl Juliá (born March 9, 1940 as Raúl Rafael Juliá y Arcelay in San Juan , Puerto Rico , † October 24, 1994 in Manhasset , New York ) was an American actor of Puerto Rican descent.
Live and act
Raúl Juliá grew up in San Juan . In 1964 he moved to New York , where he studied acting with Wynn Handman . After that he first appeared in numerous theater productions . In 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1982 he was nominated for a Tony Award . In 1985 he was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in the American - Brazilian film drama The Kiss of the Spider Woman by Héctor Babenco . He achieved particular fame with his portrayal of Gomez Addams in the Addams Family films (1991 and 1993).
Raúl Juliá suffered a stroke in his New York apartment on October 16, 1994 and then fell into a coma from which he never woke. He died eight days later at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset. His body was transferred to Puerto Rico, where a state funeral was held.
Raúl Juliá was married twice. The first marriage to Magda Vasallo remained childless and in 1969 they divorced after four years. He had sons Raul and Benjamin with his second wife Merel Poloway, with whom he was married from 1976 until his death in 1994.
