Hans Binder (cave explorer)

Hans Lorenz Binder (born January 15, 1924 in Tübingen ; † October 26, 2005 in Göppingen ) was a German pedagogue and cave explorer .

life and work

Hans Binder was born in Tübingen as the son of a student councilor. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht at the age of 17 and had to go to World War II . He suffered several wounds, when the Allies landed in Normandy he lost his right arm and suffered severe hearing damage. After returning from the war, Hans Binder attended an interpreting school before becoming managing director of the Winnenden Adult Education Center in 1950 . However, he had never lost sight of his professional goal as a teacher, after studying pedagogy he worked as a teacher in various places. In his approval work for the second service examination, Binder had already dealt with the geology of the Swabian Alb in a study of the hunger well in Heldenfingen . In 1956 he got the opportunity to contribute his expertise as a village teacher when he discovered a cleft cave near Altheim . His first publication in the sheets of the Swabian Alb Association was about this cave. From 1961 he was a real-world teacher in Nürtingen . In 1966 he also took over the honorary management of the Nürtingen Adult Education Center. When Hans Binder took over the full-time management of this facility in 1974 and also became cultural advisor for the city of Nürtingen, he was released from school service.

Voluntary work

Hans Binder has been very involved in voluntary work for decades. In 1956 he became a member of the Association of German Cave and Karst Researchers , in 1958 and 1959 he was its treasurer and from 1959 to 1977 honorary managing director. This commitment shaped his life and gave him the honorable nickname Höhlen-Binder . Hans Binder had already joined the Swabian Alb Association in Winnenden in 1949 . From 1957 to 1962 he was shop steward for the local group in Seißen. Throughout his life he was particularly involved in the Albverein. From 1980 to 1994, Hans Binder headed the Nürtingen branch of the Swabian Heimatbund . He was also involved in the Association of War Disabled, War Survivors and Social Pensioners in Germany (VdK) and the Volksbund Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge .

Honors

Hans Binder was also awarded numerous badges, medals and honorary memberships.
