The anniversary storm in Plochinger district Stumpenhof in Baden-Württemberg Esslingen district is a landmarked observation tower at an altitude of 399 m above sea level, which the Swabian Albverein care.

history

In 1891 a twelve-meter-high wooden observation tower was built by the Plochingen Beautification Association . This tower was replaced in 1938 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Swabian Alb Association by the 14 m high anniversary tower, which is still in use today and is made of Angulate sandstone from the area. The outside stairs of the lowest ascent are made of Crailsheim shell limestone . The tower with the square floor plan stood free in the landscape until 1949, the Stumpenhof was the only neighboring building at that time. In 1952, however, the new Stumpenhof district was founded and the area has now largely been built on. Nevertheless, the tower is considered a Plochingen landmark and landmark.

The tower offers a view of the Albtrauf , where the Teck rises in the south 14 km from the tower . Other mountains that can be seen from the Jubilee Tower include the Boßler , Hohenstaufen , Rechberg and Stuifen as well as Hohenneuffen , Jusi and Achalm . The tower is open to the public on Sundays and public holidays during the summer months. Access is via the north-facing external staircase and the high entrance there. Inside there is a concrete staircase that leads through a covered staircase to the viewing platform.

Since 1966 the room on the ground floor has served as a club and meeting room for the Swabian Alb Association. A memorial to the construction of the tower is engraved in the wooden frame above its access door on the east side of the tower.

The Plochingen district hospital was located in the building complex on the street Am Aussichtsturm south of the tower from 1985 until it was closed in 2014. After being temporarily vacant, parts of the Esslingen district office have been housed there since 2015.
