Wilfried Setzler

Wilfried Setzler (* 1943 in Pforzheim ) is a German historian and Germanist.

Live and act

Wilfried Setzler studied history, German, folklore, art history, philosophy and political science. He was a research assistant for Hansmartin Decker-Hauff and did his doctorate on the Zwiefalten monastery . In 1973 he became a member of the Swabian Heimatbund and supported it with numerous trips, excursions and lectures as well as in its event committee and editorial committee. On August 1, 1980 he became head of the cultural office of the city of Tübingen . In his 27 years of service, he took care of the future of the brewhouse , the independence of the room theater , the move of the adult education center to the former Loretto barracks and the French Film Days as well as the city ​​museum , city library, city archive, art gallery and Hölderlin tower . He maintained international relations not only with the twin cities: In 1981, Tübingen was one of the first German cities to invite their former Jewish citizens and later also the forced laborers.

In 1995 the University of Tübingen appointed him honorary professor at the Faculty of Philosophy and History. In 2008 he became an honorary member of the Swabian Homeland Federation as Vice Chairman. He is also chairman of the Tübinger Kunstverein eV and managing director of the Association of Friends of Tübinger Kultur eV

He is considered a well-founded expert on the history and culture of the university city of Tübingen and the state and is a much sought-after and heard speaker for lectures and guided tours, e. B. in the series Do you know Tübingen? . In autumn 2001, he was appointed as professor in the television Landesschau the SWR on 50 years Baden-Wuerttemberg to a wider audience.

In 2015 he took over the chairmanship of the Hohentübingen Studienstiftung until the end of 2018.

Setzler was a permanent member of the editorial board of the Swabian home calendar .
