The Frankenweg begins in Pforzheim -Kupferhammer at the same point where the three major hiking trails of the Black Forest Association ( Westweg , Mittelweg , Ostweg ) begin. The route first leads north, through the town, and then through the southern Kraichgau to Maulbronn with its world-famous monastery . It continues to Sternenfels , and over the elongated ridge of the Heuchelberg the hiker reaches Heilbronn, where the Neckar is crossed.

Main hiking trail 8 continues east of Heilbronn through the Löwenstein mountains . Via Löwenstein , Neuhütten and Maienfels you can reach the Waldenburg Mountains and Waldenburg . Here the path leaves the Swabian-Franconian Forest and reaches the Hohenlohe plain near Neuenstein . The Kocher is exceeded at Künzelsau , the Jagst at Langenburg . Via Schrozberg you finally get to the end point Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
