Maienfels is the third largest district in the municipality of Wüstenrot in the Heilbronn district .

The place is on the northern edge of the Mainhardt Forest at approx. 450 m above sea ​​level on a mountain ledge above the Brettachtal . The approximately 1080 inhabitants are spread over the residential areas Maienfels, Oberheimbach, Kreuzle, Busch, Happbühl, Schweizerhof, Berg, Ochsenhof, Walklensweiler and Blindenmannshäusle. Due to the mild climate in Oberheimbach - the lowest part of Wüstenrot - even viticulture is possible.

Maienfels developed as Burgweiler the 1302 first mentioned Maienfels Castle , which from the 15th century Ganerbenbesitz various dominions was before in the 18th century in the sole possession of the von Gemmingen Barons came. The castle church , former castle chapel from 1433/1613 below the castle, was renovated in 1914/15 and is now the parish church of the Protestant parish of Maienfels.

On February 6, 1961, a rock slide occurred in which parts of the Burgberg massif slid onto the village of Maienfels below and caused some damage.

On January 1, 1974, Maienfels formed the new municipality of Wüstenrot together with Wüstenrot, Neuhütten and Finsterrot . On December 8, 1975, the citizens of the Maienfels district of Brettach , which had belonged to Maienfels for centuries, decided to separate from Wüstenrot and incorporate it into Bretzfeld in the neighboring Hohenlohe district , which took effect on January 1, 1977.
