The castle bar is an Outbound hilltop castle on the Michael Berg at 241  m above sea level. NN near the municipality of Riegel am Kaiserstuhl in the district of Emmendingen in Baden-Württemberg . In addition to the preserved moat , there is still the Michael's Chapel , which already existed in the 10th century.

In the 12th century the castle was built around the chapel, which was divided into a forecourt, rear and middle castle. The castle was protected from attackers by the rivers. The builders were the lords of Roggenbach , whom the Üsenberg family followed in 1238 as lords of the castle. In the 14th century the castle was first sold to the Snewlin in the courtyard and then to the Malterer gentlemen .

With the death of Hesso V. von Üsenberg, the last of the family, in 1379, the castle was visibly dilapidated and from 1399 was used as a quarry for the construction of the Riegler Castle .

In the meantime, a square with an information board has been set up on Michaelsberg around the chapel.
