As a free agent , the Philadelphia Flyers secured the services of Pitlick in September 1990 and put him in their farm team , the Hershey Bears , in the American Hockey League until 1994 . The defender spent a large part of the 1991/92 season with the US ice hockey association USA Hockey . Participation in the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville failed. In June 1994, Pitlick joined the Ottawa Senators as a free agent . Also due to the lockout and late start of the 1994/95 NHL season , he was initially only used in the AHL with the Prince Edward Island Senators . It was not until the 1996/97 season that the defensive specialist earned a regular place in Ottawa's NHL squad. When his contract expired in the summer of 1999, Pitlick joined the Florida Panthers . He stayed there until the summer of 2002. After spending much of the 2001/02 season as the seventh defender in the Panthers' squad in the stands, he ended his playing career at the age of 34 after the season.
