Emerson Etem (born June 16, 1992 in Long Beach , California ) is an American ice hockey player who has had free agent status since November 2018 and to date 196 games for the Anaheim Ducks , New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks in of the National Hockey League on the position of the right winger .

Career

Emerson Etem began his active career in 2007 at Shattuck St. Mary’s High School for a year. The attacker then continued his career with the USA Hockey National Team Development Program in the North American Hockey League . There he was immediately one of the regulars and top performers of the team in his first season. For the 2009/10 season Etem joined the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League . In his rookie season he completed a total of 84 games for the Medicine Hat Tigers and scored 75 points . With 37 goals in the regular season, Etem was the most successful rookie of that season.

The offensive player was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2010 in the first round in a total of 29th position by the Anaheim Ducks . After spending the training camp with the Californians in September 2010, Etem was sent back to the Medicine Hat Tigers at the first squad reduction. In May 2011, the striker signed a three-year entry-level contract with the Anaheim Ducks. He also began the 2011/12 season again with the Medicine Hat Tigers and was voted WHL Player of the Month September / October in early November 2011 after excellent performance , after the striker had previously scored 21 hits and ten assists in 15 games. The attacker ended the 2011/12 regular season with a record of 61 goals in 65 games and became the first WHL player with at least 60 goals this season since Layne Ulmer , who had scored 63 goals in the regular season in the 2000/01 season.

After the NHL lockout ended in the 2012/13 season , Etem made his debut for the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League . In his third use, a home game against the Los Angeles Kings , the American scored his first two points when the left-shooter posted two assists. On March 18, 2013, he scored his first NHL goal in the home game against the San Jose Sharks .

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season Etem was in the NHL squad of the Ducks, but was returned to the AHL farm team, the Norfolk Admirals , in November 2013 . In June 2015, the Ducks gave him, including a second-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, to the New York Rangers , who in turn sent Carl Hagelin and a second and six-round vote for the same draft to Anaheim. In the season 2015/16 the Americans denied first 19 games for the Rangers, but in which he could achieve only three assists and finally in January 2016 in exchange for Nicklas Jensen and a sixth-round option for the NHL Entry Draft in 2017 to the Vancouver Canucks transferred. Shortly before the start of the season, he was signed by the Anaheim Ducks via the waiver in October 2016 . In the course of the season, however, the attacker only played four competitive games due to injury, so the Ducks did not extend his contract after the end of the season. In July 2017, he then joined the Arizona Coyotes as a free agent . The Coyotes also only used Etem in the AHL with the Tucson Roadrunners until an agreement was reached in January 2018 to terminate his contract. A little later, Etem moved to Europe for the first time by joining HC Lugano from the Swiss National League and signing a contract there until the end of the 2017/18 season. Between October and November 2018 he played a few games for the Ontario Reign in the AHL.

International

For the United States , Etem took part in the U20 World Junior Championship in 2011 , where he finished third with his team and won the bronze medal.
