David Schlemko (born May 7, 1987 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers of the National Hockey League since February 2019 and for their farm team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League plays in the position of defender .
Career
David Schlemko played during his junior years from 2002 to 2004 for the Knights of Columbus Pats in the Alberta Midget Hockey League and then for three years for the Medicine Hat Tigers in the Western Hockey League . During this time he won the Ed Chynoweth Cup with the Medicine Hat Tigers . After he exceeded the age limit for the junior teams in the summer of 2007, the defensive player was signed as a free agent by the Phoenix Coyotes . The Canadian was sent directly to the Arizona Sundogs in the Central Hockey League , where he immediately fought for a regular place and also appeared as a template provider. In the play-offs, the Sundogs prevailed and won the final series for the Ray Miron President's Cup in four games against the Colorado Eagles .
In the same season Schlemko completed a game for the San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League . The following year, the defender was fixed in San Antonio in use and counted there immediately to the service providers. During the 2008/09 season , the Canadian made his debut for the Phoenix Coyotes in the National Hockey League . The following season the defender spent mostly in the AHL with the San Antonio Rampage, but received more ice time with the Coyotes and had 17 appearances in the NHL at the end of the season.
In January, the Coyotes put it on the waiver to hand it over to their farm team. In the course of this, the Dallas Stars signed him . Schlemko stayed there for barely two months before he was signed - again via the waiver - by the Calgary Flames . The defender ended the season in Calgary before being signed to the New Jersey Devils as a free agent for a year in September 2015 . This contract was not renewed after the 2015/16 season, so Schlemko joined the San Jose Sharks as a free agent , who provided him with a four-year contract. In San Jose, however, the Canadian could not fully meet the expectations placed on him, so the team left him unprotected for the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft
The defender was then selected in the Expansion Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights , but was given to the Canadiens de Montréal only one day later in exchange for a five-round vote in the 2019 NHL Entry Draft . In the Habs , Schlemko only managed to show consistent performances to a limited extent and found himself in the AHL for a short time in the AHL with the Rocket de Laval farm team over the course of both years of play . In February 2019, the French-Canadians parted ways with Byron Froese and transferred him to the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Christian Folin and Dale Weise .
