Kevin Francesco Bieksa (born June 16, 1981 in Grimsby , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Anaheim Ducks of the National Hockey League until July 2018 . Prior to that, the defender spent over ten years in the Vancouver Canucks organization .
Career
The 1.85 m tall defender played during his junior years from 1997 to 2000 for the Burlington Cougars of the Ontario Junior Hockey League . He spent his college years with the Bowling Green State University ice hockey team , the Bowling Green Falcons, in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association , a league in the game of the National Collegiate Athletic Association , before becoming the 151st player in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft the Vancouver Canucks was selected.
From 2004, the Canadian was used by the Canucks for the Manitoba Moose , their farm team in the American Hockey League . After a good start to the 2005/06 season , he was finally appointed in December 2005 to the NHL roster of the Vancouver franchise . He also managed in the minor league jump into the AHL All-Rookie Team as one of the best newcomers in the league. On October 13, 2006, Bieksa scored his first NHL goal in the Canucks game against the San Jose Sharks , ultimately finishing the season as the team's highest-point defender. Due to a calf injury, the defender was only able to complete 34 appearances in the highest North American professional league in the following season .
After more than 600 NHL appearances in ten years with the Canucks, Bieksa was transferred to the Anaheim Ducks in June 2015 , which in return transferred a second-round vote for the 2016 NHL Entry Draft to Vancouver. The Canadian was active with the Ducks until the end of the 2017/18 season when his expiring contract was not extended.
International
On an international level, Bieksa made her debut for the Canadian national team at the 2014 World Cup , where she finished fifth with the team.
