Igor Wladimirowitsch Grigorenko ( Russian Игорь Владимирович Григоренко ; born April 9, 1983 in Tolyatti , Russian SFSR ) is a Russian ice hockey striker who was last under contract with HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk in the Continental Hockey League between August and November 2017 .
Career
Igor Grigorenko began his career in the Russian third division in 1998 with the second team of HK Lada Tolyatti and scored three goals and three assists in 19 games in his first season . In his second season he increased to 34 points in 38 games and completed the following year in the second-rate Wysschaja Liga at ZSK WWS Samara , but also came in the playoffs of the Superliga for the first time in the top division for the first team of HK Lada Tolyatti for use. With the Russian junior national team he took part in the U18 World Cup in 2001 and led the team to the title with six goals and four assists.
The Detroit Red Wings then selected him in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the second round at position 62. Grigorenko quickly established himself as a regular in the Super League squad of HK Lada Tolyatti and won the gold medal at the Junior World Cup in 2002 with the U20 national team . In 2003 he repeated the triumph with the U20 national team and was the tournament's best scorer with six goals and four assists. In addition, he led the scorer list of HK Lada Tolyatti in the 2002/03 season with 30 points and was appointed for the first time in the A-squad of the Russian national team for the 2003 Ice Hockey World Championship , where he was in the first row with the NHL players Pavel Datsjuk and Ilya Kovalchuk stormed off. However, they failed in the quarterfinals.
On May 16, 2003, nine days after the quarter-finals at the World Cup, Grigorenko had a serious accident in a car accident. He fractured his left femur and two more fractures in his left shin. During the hospital stay, complications arose and a life-threatening thrombus developed in the lungs.
In December 2003 he returned to the ice and made his comeback with the second team of HK Lada Tolyatti in the third division, but had to undergo further operations, so that he only came to eight missions. In spring 2004 he ran for the first time again for three playoff games in the super league for Tolyatti. The 2004/05 season he started again with the second team, was able to convince there with ten points in seven games and returned to the Super League. There he had problems following the pace of the game, especially since many players from North America had come to Russia because of the cancellation of the NHL season . Grigorenko was then transferred to Salawat Julajew Ufa within the Super League , where he found his way back to his good form.
The 2005/06 season he played at Severstal Tscherepowez and was the team's best scorer. In 2006 he returned to HK Lada Tolyatti, scoring 27 points in 49 games.
In May 2007, Grigorenko signed an entry contract for the NHL with the Detroit Red Wings and took part in the team's training camp in the fall, but could not prevail and began the 2007/08 season in the AHL with the Detroit farm team , the Grand Rapids Griffins . On October 22, Grigorenko was named to the Red Wings NHL squad. The reason for this was that Grigorenko was able to return to Russia within the first three weeks of the season in the AHL through a contract clause and refused to continue playing for the farm team. However, he could not recommend himself for a permanent place in the Red Wings squad and returned to Russia before November 1 to play the rest of the season for Salawat Julajew Ufa. But even there he fell short of expectations and only had four goals and six assists in 27 games. With Ufa he finally won the Russian championship , but only made four appearances in the playoffs due to injury.
In the summer of 2008, the Detroit Red Wings made Grigorenko no qualification offer, which they lost the rights to him.
In October 2012, the management of Salawat Julajew swapped him for Denis Parschin from HK CSKA Moscow , where he played until the end of the 2014/15 season and was always one of the top performers in the team. He then returned to Ufa in May 2015.
