Timo Pärssinen (born January 19, 1977 in Lohja ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was active for many years at Timrå IK in the Swedish Elitserien as well as at HPK Hämeenlinna , HIFK Helsinki and the Pelicans in the Liiga .
Career
Pärssinen started his career in the 1994/95 season with TuTo Turku in the Finnish SM-liiga . There he played three seasons, the last one due to a relegation of the team in the 1st division. In the 1997/98 season he moved for a year to the club Kokkolan Hermes , also in the 1st division and then played again from 1998 to 2001 in the SM-liiga with the club HPK Hämeenlinna . In 1999, Pärssinen won the Jarmo Wasama Commemorative Trophy as the best rookie of the season . In the 2001/02 season Pärssinen played for the first and only time in North America, after he was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round as 102nd by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim . In the NHL with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and in the American Hockey League with the Cincinnati Mighty Ducks . After this more or less successful season, he moved back to the Finnish SM-liiga at HIFK Helsinki for three years . The 2003/04 season represented a high point in his national career, when the Finn was elected to the All-Star-Team of the SM-liiga and honored with several trophies for his individual achievements. Among other things, he received the Lasse Oksanen trophy as the best player of the regular season and the Veli-Pekka-Ketola trophy as the top scorer. In the 2005/06 season he played in the Swiss National League A at EV Zug . He was then signed by Timrå IK from the Elitserien , for which he played until 2012.
International
Internationally, Pärssinen played with the Finnish national team at the World Championships in 2001 , 2002 , 2004 , 2005 and 2007 . He won two silver medals and took 4th, 6th and 7th place twice.
