Owen Fussey (born April 2, 1983 in Winnipeg , Manitoba ) is a former Canadian - British ice hockey player who has, among other things, completed four NHL games for Washington Capitals .
Career
Owen Fussey began his career as a hockey player in his hometown of Winnipeg . Even when he was drawn by the Calgary Hitmen in the second round of the WHL Bantam Draft in 1998 , he initially played for the Winnipeg Warriors Bantam and only moved to the WHL club from the Olympic City of 1988 in 1999. In 2001 he was in the third round of the NHL Entry Drafts drawn by the Washington Capitals , but initially remained in Calgary before moving to the Moose Jaw Warriors during the season . In 2003, the Washington Capitals delegated Fussey to their then farm team, the Portland Pirates , for whom he played in the American Hockey League for the next two years . But he was also used four times by the Capitals in the National Hockey League . In 2005 he moved to the AHL record champions Hershey Bears , with whom he was able to win their ninth AHL title in 2006. The following two years he mainly played for Columbia Inferno in the ECHL , but was occasionally used by their AHL partner team, the Toronto Marlies and in the 2007/08 season by the Hershey Bears, with whom he was able to win the AHL again. When Columbia Inferno stopped playing in 2008, Fussey moved to Europe and initially played a year in the Italian series, A1 for SHC Fassa . After relegation could only be secured there in a playoff against the winners of Serie.A2, the WSV Sterzing Broncos , he moved to the United Kingdom, where he was active in the Elite Ice Hockey League for three years . After a year at the Edinburgh Capitals , where he was named EIHL Newcomer of the Year , and two seasons for Coventry Blaze , he temporarily ended his career in 2012. In 2014 he became active again and played in the second-rate English Premier Ice Hockey League with the Guildford Flames until he retired in 2015.
International
To international missions Fussey came only after the acquisition of British citizenship when he with the British national team at the World Cup in 2012 took part in the Division I. He achieved the 3: 3 equalization in the 5: 4 success in the last game against Hungary , which ultimately saved the British from relegation from the A to the B group of Division I.
