Bernd Brückler (born September 26, 1981 in Graz ) is a former Austrian ice hockey goalkeeper who was active in the Austrian ice hockey league for the Klagenfurt AC , the EC Red Bull Salzburg and the EC Graz 99ers . Internationally he played for the Hartford Wolf Pack , the Espoo Blues , Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod and the HK Sibir Novosibirsk, among others .

Career

Bernd Brückler began his career at EC Graz before moving to the North American League United States Hockey League for the Tri-City Storm in summer 2000 . In the 2001 NHL Entry Draft he was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers in the fifth round in 150th place and then played for the University of Wisconsin-Madison for four years .

After moving to the professional field, Brückler played a mixed season in 2005/06 in the American Hockey League for the Hartford Wolf Pack and in the ECHL for the Charlotte Checkers and Toledo Storm , before finally moving back to Europe. He was hired by Espoo Blues in the Finnish SM-liiga and came into the playoffs with them in his first full season in 2006/07 . In the summer of 2007 he won the Tampere Cup with Espoo , and in the 2007/08 season he was Finnish runner-up with the Blues. Furthermore, this season he was the goalkeeper with the lowest goal average of 1.97, had the most shutouts with seven, had the best percentage of games won with 66 percent and gave the most assists among the goalkeepers with six.

From the 2009/10 season , the Austrian goalkeeper guarded the goal of Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Continental Hockey League . On December 23, 2009, the goalkeeper pulled a collateral ligament and a double tear in the meniscus and was out for the remainder of the season. He returned in the 2010/11 season and was elected KHL goalkeeper of the month for September after a good start to the season.

In April 2011 he moved within the KHL to HK Sibir Novosibirsk , before his current contract was prematurely terminated in August 2012. He was then without a club, rather he was signed by EC Red Bull Salzburg in October 2012 . There he shared the goalkeeping position with Luka Gračnar until 2015 . In 2014 and 2015 he was Austrian champion with the Salzburg team .

On September 8, 2015 he was signed by the Klagenfurt AC , where standard goalie René Swette was out due to health problems. The contract was provisionally agreed until the end of November 2015. He was then signed on and played 31 games for the Klagenfurt team in the 2015/16 season . He then ended his career and became a TV expert at Sky Austria .

International

Brückler made his debut on December 18, 2003 in the 1: 4 against Canada in Piešťany, Slovakia in the Austrian national team . He guarded the gate of the Alpine countries at the World Championships of the top division in 2004 , 2005 , 2007 and 2009 . After relegation, he was in Division I in 2008 . He also represented his colors in qualifying for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . He was used in international matches until 2013, but did not make any further tournament nominations.
