Aaron Johnson (born April 30, 1983 in Port Hawkesbury , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who was last under contract with the Adlers Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League .

Career

Johnson began his career in 1999 in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League with the Rimouski Océanic , with whom he won the Coupe du Président in his first year . He then took part with his team in the Memorial Cup , which could also be won by beating the Barrie Colts in the final . In the following years, the left shooter was able to continuously increase his points yield. With 59 points scorer in 75 games, he was one of the defenders with the highest points within the team in the 2000/01 season. As a result, he drew the interest of the NHL scouts . After all, it was the people in charge of the Columbus Blue Jackets who selected him in the third round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in a total of 85th position. Johnson then stayed in Rimouski for another two years before moving to the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League after a brief interlude with the Québec Remparts in the summer of 2003. There he was initially mainly used in the American Hockey League , with the Syracuse Crunch , the farm team of the Blue Jackets. Nevertheless, he was able to recommend himself for a commitment in the NHL and so he completed 29 games for Columbus during the 2003/04 season , in which he was able to achieve eight points.

The NHL season 2004/05 , which was not played due to the lockout , he spent in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch. After he was used in another 29 NHL games during the 2005/06 season , he was able to take his chance and play in the regular squad of the Blue Jackets. Thus he was the first time in the squad of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the entire following season. In 61 games he scored ten points and also received 38 penalty minutes. Since his contract was not renewed at the end of the 2006/07 season , he signed in the summer of 2007 as a free agent with the New York Islanders , for which he was only on the ice 30 times because he suffered a knee injury and the subsequent rehab was long canceled. Finally, the management of the Chicago Blackhawks became aware of the then 25-year-old and made him a contract offer for the 2008/09 season , which trained defenders accepted.

Shortly after the start of the 2009/10 season , he was given in exchange for Kyle Greentree to the Calgary Flames . In August 2010, Johnson signed a one-year contract with the Nashville Predators .

On July 5, 2011, the defense attorney agreed on a two-way contract for one year with the Columbus Blue Jackets . He was then committed by the Boston Bruins . In July 2013, he signed a one-year contract with the New York Rangers . During the pre-season, Johnson was then transferred from the NHL squad to the AHL to Hartford Wolf Pack . His one-year contract in New York was not renewed after the 2013-14 season, so Johnson joined the Ottawa Senators in July 2014 . The Senators also used him exclusively in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators and did not extend his one-year contract, so that he signed a pure AHL contract with the newly founded Stockton Heat in September 2015 . For the 2016/17 season, Johnson signed a one-year contract with Adlers Mannheim from the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) and ultimately played for the club until 2018.
