Ryan Hollweg (born April 23, 1983 in Downey , California ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Škoda Plzeň in the Extraliga since July 2012 .

Career

Ryan Hollweg began his career as a hockey player with the Langley Hornets from the British Columbia Hockey League , for which he was active in the 1998/99 season. He then received a contract with the Medicine Hat Tigers , for which he played in the Western Hockey League for a total of five years until 2004 . During this time he was selected by the New York Rangers during the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the eighth round as a total of 238th player. In the 2001/02 season he made his professional ice hockey debut for the Rangers farm team from the American Hockey League , Hartford Wolf Pack . The Californian missed much of the 2002/03 season due to a traumatic brain injury .

For the 2004/05 NHL season , Hollweg was finally ordered into the Rangers roster, but due to the lockout in this season, he was only used for Hartford in the AHL. After three years in New York, Hollweg was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 14, 2008 in exchange for a five-round vote in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft . After spending the next four years in various AHL farm teams, Hollweg was signed by HC Škoda Plzeň from the Czech extra league in July 2012 .
