Jan Sverker Andreas "Salle" Salomonsson (born December 19, 1973 in Örnsköldsvik ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played in the course of his active career between 1990 and 2010 mainly for his home club MODO Hockey in the Elitserien on the position of the left winger . In addition, Salomonsson, who won the Swedish championship twice in his career , also played 71 games for the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League .
Career
Salomonsson spent his junior years in the club in his hometown. At MoDo Hockey Örnsköldsvik the striker made his debut in the Elitserien during the 1990/91 season , but was also a member of the junior division until 1993, with which he celebrated numerous successes at national level. As early as the 1992/93 season Salomonsson was part of the regular squad of the professional team. In 1994 and 1995 he reached the runner-up in the national championship with the team. In the course of the 1996/97 season , however, he left the club and joined the EC Ratingen from the German Ice Hockey League . The engagement in Germany ended at the end of the season and Salomonsson returned to his home club. Ultimately, he remained loyal to this until the summer of 2000 and celebrated his third runner-up there at the end.
For the 2000/01 season , the attacker moved within the league to the capital club Djurgårdens IF , where he celebrated the greatest success of his career by winning the Swedish championship in the same year. After Salomonsson was surprisingly selected by the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft at the age of 27 , the winger dared to move to North America after signing the contract with the Devils. There he spent the 2001/02 season both in the NHL roster of the Devils and in their farm team , the Albany River Rats , in the American Hockey League . In October 2002, New Jersey separated from the Swede and he got on the waiver list to league rivals Washington Capitals , where he also spent the game year in the NHL and AHL with the Portland Pirates .
In the summer of 2003, Solomonsson's overseas engagement ended and he returned to his hometown club in Örnsköldsvik. There he was able to win the Swedish championship again with the team in 2007, before he had to end his career in February 2010 at the age of 37 due to an injury in the groin region .
International
For his home country, Salomonsson was in the junior division at the U18 European Junior Championships in 1991 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1993 . He was able to complete the world championship by winning the silver medal. The striker won the same medal when he took part in the 2004 World Cup . Three years earlier he had won the bronze medal at the 2001 World Cup .
