Career
Toni Koivisto began his career as an ice hockey player with Lukko Rauma , for which he was active in the SM-liiga from 1999 to 2005 . During this time he was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round as a total of 200th player by the Florida Panthers , for which he never played. After six years with Lukko Rauma, Koivisto moved within the highest Finnish ice hockey league to Ilves Tampere , for whom he was on the ice for three years before he received a contract with the reigning Finnish champions Kärpät Oulu before the 2008/09 season , for which he then ran up in the Champions Hockey League in all four group games. In these games he posted two scorer points, including a goal. He was also runner-up with Kärpät this season.
After this success Koivisto was obliged by HK Metallurg Magnitogorsk from the Continental Hockey League , for which he scored 21 scorer points in 59 games. In 2010 he left the Russian team again and was signed by Frölunda HC from the Elitserien . Koivisto played for Frölunda until the end of October 2011, before his contract was terminated and he found a new club at Luleå HF . In February 2012 he signed a contract extension until 2014, but it did not come into effect as Koivisto returned to his hometown club in Rauma in May 2013.
