Markus Seikola (born June 5, 1982 in Laitila ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was active for most of his career at TPS Turku in the Liiga . He also played for Frölunda HC and Södertälje SK in the Swedish Elitserien and for Ilves Tampere and Pelicans Lahti in the Liiga. The greatest success of his career was the Finnish championship title with TPS 2011 as well as two medal wins at junior world championships.
Career
Markus Seikola began his career as a hockey player in the youth department of TPS Turku , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2000/01 season . In his rookie year , he immediately became Finnish champion with TPS . He himself scored two goals in his 33 appearances. In the 2003/04 season , the defender and his team only failed in the playoff final. Shortly before the end of the 2005/06 season , Seikola moved to Frölunda HC from the Swedish Elitserien , with whom he was defeated by Färjestad BK in the playoff final . After another season with Sweden, he played for HPK Hämeenlinna in his Finnish homeland in the 2007/08 season . From 2008 to 2010 he ran for the traditional club Ilves Tampere . There he was able to convince, especially in the 2008/09 season , when he was awarded the Pekka-Rautakallio trophy as the best defender of the SM-liiga and was voted into their all-star team.
For the 2010/11 season Seikola was signed by Södertälje SK . With the Elitserien participant, he could not prevent relegation to HockeyAllsvenskan , the second Swedish division, whereupon he joined the Pelicans Lahti from the SM-liiga.
After the 2012/13 season he returned to his home club TPS Turku before ending his career with VG-62 and TuTo Hockey in the 2015/16 season .
International
For Finland , Seikola took part in the junior division of the U18 World Junior Championship in 2000 and the U20 World Junior Championship in 2002 . At the U18 World Cup in 2000 he won the gold medal with his team and the bronze medal at the U20 World Cup in 2002. In the senior sector, he was in his country's squad for the Euro Hockey Tour in 2009 and 2010 .
