Laitila [ ˈlɑi̯tilɑ ] ( Swedish : Letala ) is a city in south-western Finland with 8,647 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located in the Vakka-Suomi region in the northwest of the Varsinais-Suomi landscape , around 18 kilometers northeast of Uusikaupunki . The city of Rauma is 30 kilometers north and Turku 60 kilometers south. Laitila is on State Road 8 ( European Route 8 ) from Turku to Oulu .

Laitila was already inhabited in prehistoric times. Numerous archaeological finds have been made in the city area, including the oldest glass object found in Finland, a drinking horn from Roman times, and an Iron Age warrior's grave. The St. Michael Church in the center of Laitila dates from the period between 1460 and 1483. In the village of Pertteli in the urban area of ​​Laitila there is an 18th century church dedicated to St. Bartholomew on the site of an older predecessor, the Saint Heinrich von Uppsala is said to have initiated. The village church of Untamala (1785) is also on the site of a medieval church. The municipality of Laitila was founded in 1868, and Laitila has been a city since 1986.

In Laitila there are suppliers from the automotive, information and shipbuilding industries, metal processing companies and a larger beverage factory that produces beer, cider, lemonades and water.

Laitila has twinned cities with Cuxhaven ( Germany ), Härryda ( Sweden ), Masasi ( Tanzania ) and Võru ( Estonia ).
