Marttila [ ˈmɑrtːilɑ ] ( Swedish : S: t Mårtens ) is a municipality in south-western Finland with 2018 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is located in the Varsinais-Suomi landscape on the Paimionjoki River around 40 kilometers northeast of Turku . The historical trade route between Turku and Häme crossed the municipality, as did State Road 10 from Turku to Hämeenlinna today .

The first written mention of Marttila comes from the year 1409. The community is named after St. Martin of Tours , to whom the local church is consecrated. The saint is also depicted in the municipality's coat of arms. 1599 took place in Marttila a battle between the later Swedish King Charles IX. and supporters of the deposed King Sigismund III. Wasa instead. In 1824, Finland's last peacetime death sentence was carried out in Marttila, which is now a memorial.

The landscape of Marttila is typical of Varsinais-Suomi: The Paimionjoki river valley is used for agriculture, and there are larger forest and swamp areas on the edge of the municipality.
