Kustavi [ ˈkustɑvi ] ( Swedish : Gustavs ) is a municipality in the archipelago off the coast of southwestern Finland with 941 inhabitants. It is located in the Varsinais-Suomi landscape about 30 kilometers from Uusikaupunki . The distance to Turku is around 50 kilometers. In total, the Kustavi area comprises over 2000 skerries and cliffs. Excluding the marine areas, Kustavi has an area of 166.4 square kilometers, of which 1.8 square kilometers are inland water. Kustavi is connected to the eastern mainland and the municipality of Taivassalo by a bridge completed in 1982. Towards the sea, Kustavi borders the communities of Pargas and Brändö, which are also located on the archipelago . The latter is already part of the Åland autonomous region .
While the southern part of the archipelago and the neighboring Åland to the west are Swedish-speaking, Kustavi is monolingual Finnish - speaking . Kustavi got its name after the Swedish King Gustav III. at whose instigation the church of Kustavi was built in 1783.
