Teemu Laine (born August 9, 1982 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HV71 in the Svenska Hockeyligan since September 2014 .
Career
Teemu Laine began his career in the youth of Jokerit Helsinki , for which he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1999/2000 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the second round as a total of 39th player by the New Jersey Devils , for which he never played. With Jokerit, the attacker became Finnish champion for the first time in the 2001/02 season . A year later he won the IIHF Continental Cup with his team . In the summer of 2004, Laine moved to Jokerits league rivals Tappara Tampere , for whom he was active in the SM-liiga for another three years. After a season at TPS Turku , the Finn signed a contract in the Swedish Elitserien before the 2008/09 season with the reigning champions HV71 , with whom he then lost to Färjestad BK in the final series .
In the 2009/10 season he reached the final of the Elitserien Playoffs with the HV71 and defeated Djurgårdens IF 4-2. Laine scored the game and series decisive goal in the extension of the sixth game of the final. In total, he contributed to winning the championship 29 points scorer in the main round and a further 13 points in the playoffs.
In May 2011, Laine was signed by HK Dinamo Minsk from the Continental Hockey League and completed over 100 KHL games for the club in the following two game years. After his contract expired in the spring of 2013, he was obliged by HK Donbass Donetsk , for which he played another 54 KHL games. Due to the crisis in Ukraine in 2014 , HK Donbass withdrew from gaming and Laine returned to the HV71 in September 2014.
International
For Finland , Laine took part in the U18 World Junior Championship in 2000 and the U20 World Junior Championship in the same year. At the U18 World Cup, he won the gold medal with his team.
