Martin Thörnberg (born August 6, 1983 in Jönköping ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with HV71 in the Svenska Hockeyligan since May 2015 .
Career
Martin Thörnberg began his career as a hockey player in the youth team of the HV71 , for whose professional team he made his debut in the Elitserien in the 2002/03 season . In the following season the attacker became a regular player and won the Swedish championship for the first time in his career . With his team he became champions for a second time in 2008. Jönköping then qualified for the newly founded Champions Hockey League , in which he was on the ice in all four group games and scored two goals. In the 2008/09 season , Thörnberg again reached the final series in the Elitserien with HV71, in which he and his team lost to the opponent Färjestad BK .
In April 2011 he was taken by Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod from the Continental Hockey League under contract and completed 114 KHL games for the club in the following two years, in which he collected 86 scorer points. He then moved within the league to HC Lev Prague and reached the playoff final with HC Lev in 2014. After the club's withdrawal from the KHL, Thörnberg moved to Lokomotive Jaroslawl together with team captain Jiří Novotný .
After four years in the KHL, he returned to his home club HV1 in May 2015.
International
For Sweden Thörnberg took part in the World Championships in 2007 , 2009 and 2011 , where he won the bronze medal with his team in 2009 and the silver medal in 2011. At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki he was again part of the national team and won the gold medal with it.
