Vilgot Sjöman ( pronunciation : [ ˌvilːgɔt ˈʃøːman ], born December 2, 1924 in Stockholm , † April 9, 2006 ibid) was a Swedish film director and author. He was a representative of the auteur film .

He wrote novels, scripts, essays and plays and staged at the Royal Dramatic Theater before he became active in film for the first time in 1961 as assistant director to Ingmar Bergmans Licht in winter . His own debut film was Schlafwagenabteil ( Älskarinnan ) from 1962 with Bibi Andersson in the lead role. He presented it in the competition at the Berlinale in 1963 , and Bibi Andersson received a Silver Bear for her performance .

Sjöman wrote almost all of his scripts himself. He addressed social taboos several times, as early as 491 (1964), but especially in the 1970s, and thereby became a victim of film censorship . The film 491 should be so z. B. to participate in the competition of the Berlinale 1964 , but was dismissed by the organizers due to protests.

I'm curious (yellow) (1967) was thesubject of lawsuitsin the United States for alleged pornography . you can see how the leading actress Lena Nyman kissesthe (not erect) penis of her film partner Börje Ahlstedt . The film was also cut for the first time in Germany. Sjöman died as a result of a stroke.
