Christine Pascal

Christine Pascal (born November 29, 1953 in Lyon , † August 30, 1996 in Garches ) was a French actress and director .

Pascal grew up in Lyon and studied literature there. At times she appeared in amateur theater performances. She was discovered at the age of 20 by Bertrand Tavernier for the film Der Uhrmacher von St. Paul (1974). Christine Pascal made a total of five films with Tavernier, including When the Festival Begins ... (1975), for which she earned a César nomination for Best Supporting Actress . In 1979 she was cast by the Polish director Andrzej Wajda in Wilko's Girls .

In 1978 she worked as an assistant director for the filming of Yves Yersin's Kleine Fluchten , where she met the Swiss producer Robert Boner, who was the production manager for the film . The two married in 1982 and Christine Pascal took on Swiss citizenship. In 1979 she first directed the drama Félicité , in which she also took the title role and for which she had written the autobiographical screenplay.

In the following years she continued to work as an actress. In 1986 she appeared in Bertrand Tavernier's jazz drama At Midnight . She also wrote and directed a total of five films between 1979 and 1995, including the thriller La Garce (1984) with Isabelle Huppert . The relationship drama The Flight of the Butterfly (1992), which was successful with both critics and audiences , was nominated for the César for Best Film . Christine Pascal received a nomination for best director , the actors Richard Berry and Anémone received nominations for "Best Actor". The film also received the Louis Delluc Prize for the best French cinema production of 1992. Christine Pascal's next and last film as a writer and director, the comedy Affair for Beginners (1995), on the other hand, had little success. It was to be her last film project ever.

During a stay in a psychiatric hospital in Garches in Paris Christine Pascal committed 1996 suicide . She found her final resting place on the Parisian Cimetière du Père Lachaise (8th Division, Avenue Casimir Périer, row 4).
