Am Großer Weg (original title: Le Grand chemin ) is a French film released in 1987 and directed by Jean-Loup Hubert.

action

Nine year old Louis is brought from Paris to a small village in the French provinces by his mother Claire . Claire is expecting a baby and does not want to be burdened with the boy during this time, because Louis' father has left the family. However, Louis has no idea of this yet.

Country life initially gives the city boy some difficulties. He has never seen a rabbit slaughtered like this before. In the village, Louis meets ten-year-old Martine. This shows Louis her world in the small village. The cemetery plays a central role in the life of the villagers. Here death is not suppressed as it is with the people in Paris.

Marcelle and Pelo, with whom Louis has stayed, have their own problems. Marcelle lost her child and has feared another pregnancy ever since. As a result, she refuses to allow Pelo to have sex , and Pelo has started to drink because of this. In a drunk state, he once demolished the former children's room and attacked Marcelle, so that it almost resulted in a rape.

Meanwhile, Louis spends some happy holidays with Martine. However, the somewhat older girl also teases the city boy: she has made a habit of crouching on the floor with her legs apart in her dress, which means that her panties can be clearly seen. And then she complains to him that he is always staring at her panties. Since she made him a little curious, she also shows him a couple who are having fun sexually in the hay.

When Louis finally finds out that his father has left him, he runs away. He is hiding on the church roof . Martine had told him how to get there. Louis slips, but gets stuck in the gutter and is saved by Pelo.

In Marcelle, what happened brings back memories of her own loss. She realizes that you cannot protect yourself from every stroke of fate. She gives up her hostile attitude towards Pelo and makes up with him. Louis' mother has now given birth to a healthy baby and is picking up her son in the village.
