Titus Burckhardt
Titus Burckhardt (born October 24, 1908 in Florence , † January 15, 1984 in Lausanne ) was a Swiss Sufi researcher and a representative of Philosophia perennis .
Life
Titus Burckhardt, son of the sculptor Carl Burckhardt , studied art history and oriental studies at the University of Basel without graduating. He worked first as a draftsman, then as a publisher and writer.
In 1972 he was commissioned by UNESCO to preserve the cityscape of Fez . As an author, he presented writings on the cultural history of the European Middle Ages and Islam , especially on Sufism and alchemy . He also translated some French and Arabic works.
