Rien que des mensonges (German: "Nothing but Lies") is a French - Swiss film drama with Fanny Ardant and Alain Bashung from 1991.
action
The 40-year-old Muriel and her husband Antoine belong to the Parisian upper class. Antoine is a busy publisher who makes no secret of his numerous lovers. When their son, Basile, is old enough to move out, all Muriel is left with is a coffee chat with her best friends. However, she does not want to be satisfied with this situation, especially since she still feels like a 20-year-old inside. She eventually takes Adrien, a friend's partner, as a lover and begins to lie to her husband, son, and friends.
As she becomes more and more entangled in her own lies, she tries to regain her connection to reality by hiring a detective to document her affairs with photos. When she confronts her husband with the evidence of her infidelity as a kind of gift, he reacts less than jealous. Rather, he's glad that she gets her money's worth. Muriel is disappointed because she expected a different reaction. However, through her new experiences she learns a lot about herself, about love and life.

Reviews
"The film appears in the guise of a woman's film, but spreads an image of women that even a (male) director can no longer afford today," was the lexicon of international film . According to Clarke Fountain of the All Movie Guide , the "main attraction" of the film would be "to see the always elegant Fanny Ardant as a wealthy woman in action trying to get her life back on track." The plot is "thin", but it is still "the respected debut of the director Paule Muret".
Awards
At the 1992 Berlinale , Rien que des mensonges ran in the competition for the Golden Bear , which ultimately won Grand Canyon - In the Heart of the City by Lawrence Kasdan as the best film.
