Alain Bashung
Alain Bashung (born December 1, 1947 in Paris as Alain Baschung , † March 14, 2009 ibid) was a French singer and actor .
Life
Alain Bashung was the son of a worker from the Paris suburbs. His father was of Algerian origin; he never knew him. He grew up in the family of his stepfather in Alsace . At the age of five he discovered Kurt Weill's music . After returning to Paris in 1959, he came into contact with rock music in the 1960s. He published his first titles from 1966, including Pourquoi rêvez-vous des Etats-Unis or Les Romantiques . Several records appeared in the following years. Alain Bashung initially appeared unsuccessfully under the pseudonyms David Bergen and Hendrick Darmen. In 1973 he played and sang the role of Maximilien de Robespierre in Claude-Michel Schönberg's musical La Revolution Française.
In 1979, Roulette Russe was released, a record with melancholy themes. He finally became known with the song Gaby (1980). With Vertige de l'Amour (plate: pizza ) he was able to stabilize his success. The following records are mainly characterized by their painful melancholy, especially Play Blessures (1982, in collaboration with Serge Gainsbourg ) and Figure Imposée (1983) or Novice (1989). Novice is the first record whose lyrics were partly written by Jean Fauque. From 1989 their collaboration developed, which in 1991 led to the great success of Osez Josephine .
The 1990s were the period of growing fame for Bashung. In 1994 the album Chatterton appeared with the song Ma petite Entreprise . In 1998 he released Fantaisie Militaire and the songs "La Nuit je mens" and "Aucun Express", a melancholy album that appealed to both critics and audiences. Fantaisie Militaire was voted the best French album of the last 20 years in 2005. L'Imprudence (2002) was not a commercial success, but the literary album received critical acclaim.
In 2007, Alain Bashung and the Belgian singer Arno played in the film J'ai toujours rêvé d'être un gangster by Samuel Benchetrit in the 3rd story, once successful singers who wander through the province and meet by chance. Over coffee they talk about the world and their life and try to hide their loss of meaning from each other.
Bleu Pétrole was published in 2008 . In addition to Jean Fauque, Gérard Manset also worked on this album, which was described by the critics as a poetic masterpiece and became a commercial success. In August 2008, Bashung announced that he had lung cancer but continued his concerts. At the end of February 2009 he had to cancel several concerts for health reasons. On February 28, 2009 he received three prizes at the Victoires de la Musique . He received a total of eleven awards. Alain Bashung died in March 2009 of complications from his illness.
