Thetwo companies operate a news portal on the World Wide Web under the same brand and the domain name francetvinfo.fr . France Info was the first pure news channel in France.

program

France Info was the model for a number of similar news channels that were subsequently founded - in Germany for example B5 aktuell or hr-info .

There is a seven-minute “journal” on the hour and half hour. In between there is a "Flash" on the 15th and 45th minute of the broadcast hour, as well as on the 23rd and 53rd minute, which refers to the main topics of the following journal. Interviews, reports, sports programs, business news, cultural reports and articles on topics such as the environment, health or multimedia complete the program. At night, news broadcasts from foreign Francophone programs are received with a time delay.

With its pure information program, France Info has managed to become the fourth largest broadcaster in France. The audience rating from September to October 2008 was 9.3 percent. According to surveys, France Info is the most credible broadcaster in France.

The radio program France Info can be received in most cities in a so-called single -frequency network on the FM frequency 105.5 MHz. France Info can also be received on medium wave in Germany (on 603 kHz, 711 kHz, 792 kHz, 837 kHz, 945 kHz, 1206 kHz, 1377 kHz, 1404 kHz with transmission powers between 20 and 300 kW). A live stream is also available on the Internet. The RFO programs in the French overseas departments also take over the news from France Info and France Inter .

history

France Info was founded on the initiative of Roland Faure , who in December 1986 became General Manager of Radio France . It was founded at a time when the broadcaster was struggling with budget cuts and job cuts, and was therefore met with internal resistance. Among other things, the new station took over two broadcasting stations of theyouth station Radio 7, which had recently beendiscontinuedby Radio France due to unsuccessfulness.

On June 1, 1987, France Info began broadcasting as the first pure news broadcaster in France under the direction of Jérôme Bellay with around 30 of its own, mostly young journalists. On the day of the first broadcast, thanks to the Beirut correspondent for Radio France , Alain Ménargues, the station was able to provide timely coverage of the news regarding the fatal attack on Lebanese Prime Minister Rashid Karami ; On the following day, the privileged position of a journalist from Radio France , namely the Lyon-based editor-in-chief Maurice Fusier, allowed to report exclusively from the operations control center in the event of a major fire in the port of Lyon.

The program of France Info from the beginning was structured by quarter hourly half hour broadcast short messages. Contributions from the local Radio France branches in the regions were given a relatively large amount of space.

Bellay's successor at the helm of France Info was Pascal Delannoy . Under his leadership, the sheer constant repetition of news reports was loosened up by strengthening reportage-like elements. Delannoy was replaced by Michel Polacco in 2002 after 13 years in office . This increased the number of columnar commentary series from 45 to 75 and introduced special programs such as the Jeudis de l'Europe (“Europe Thursdays”) or the Semaines d'Asie (“Asia Weeks”). But he could not prevent the audience from falling from 5.75 million in 2003 to 4.5 million in 2017. In April 2017, Polacco handed over the management of the station to Patrick Roger .

On July 10, 2016, the general directors of Radio France and France Télévisions , Mathieu Gallet and Delphine Ernotte , announced that, in addition to the existing radio program , France Info would also be broadcast as a television station on the terrestrial network from September 1, 2016 and henceforth by both of them Institutions are operated jointly.
