history

The ETH Cinema Commission was founded in 1924 . The task of the newly founded commission was to show and archive film documentation for training purposes. The presentations took place in the lecture halls of ETH Zurich and were usually accompanied by a commentator.

From 1948, feature films were also shown for entertainment, with the screenings now also being open to the general public.

Since the early 1970s, the Filmstelle's program has consisted exclusively of feature films and documentaries. The characteristic feature was to present the films in their special cultural-historical or film-scientific context.

Cinemas

The Filmstelle operates a cinema in the StuZ² of the CAB building of the ETH Zurich, which can accommodate up to 250 people.

Cycles

The Filmstelle conducts two program cycles (program series) each year, both of which consist of ten to twelve films and which extend over the spring and autumn semesters at ETH Zurich.
