Véronique Olmi (born August 3, 1962 in Nice ) is a French writer .

Life

Véronique Olmi comes from a middle-class Catholic family. Her grandfather was the French politician and Minister of Agriculture Philippe Olmi (1891–1980). She grew up with five siblings.

Olmi attended a directing and acting school in Paris . She then worked in Paris with Gabriel Garran and Jean-Louis Bourdon as a dramaturge. Olmi had her greatest success as a novelist in 2017 with Bakhita . Her longest novel to date is based on the life story of the religious sister Josefine Bakhita , venerated as a saint in the Roman Catholic Church , who was abducted from her home in Darfur by Arab slave traders as a child . Bakhita made it into the final selection of the Prix ​​Goncourt in the year of its publication and won the literary prize of the French retail chain Fnac .
