Sigrid Vagt

Sigrid Vagt (born September 23, 1941 in Bad Doberan ) is a German translator .

Life

Sigrid Vagt studied Romance studies and German studies , which she completed with the state examination. After working in school for a short time, she switched to the Merve publishing house in Berlin , for which she also translated first non-fiction books . Sigrid Vagt has been working as a freelance translator since 1985 . She translates literary texts from French and Italian ; Another focus of her work is the subtitling or voice-over of numerous feature films and television programs.

Sigrid Vagt is a member of the Association of German-Language Translators of Literary and Scientific Works , VdÜ. She lives in Potsdam .

“... in the meantime my perception of the book and my approach to translation had changed. While I had initially tried, following the fairytale tone of the text, to reproduce the Sardinian elements through an archaic coloring of the language, it now seemed more appropriate to emphasize the other dimension of the text - poetically-realistic stories from today's Sardinia . So I started all over again with the processing, renouncing additional linguistic archaization (the living conditions described and the stories told seemed archaic enough to me) and I decided to indicate the use of Sardinian through structures of the spoken language and colloquial expressions. The participation in the DÜF seminar 'Colleagues redigieren Kollegen' in November 2006 led to a further revision of my approach . During the discussion of an excerpt from my translation in this seminar, it became clear to me that the style of the text is not just somewhere between fairy tales and realistic narrative fluctuates, but also shows other stylistic inconsistencies (...). So I had to check everything again to see where I could strengthen or perhaps weaken irritating style breaks through my choice of words or my sentence structure. "
