Val Avery

Val Avery (actually Sebouh Der Abrahamian , born July 14, 1924 in Philadelphia , † December 12, 2009 in Greenwich Village ) was an American actor .

Life

Avery began his career as a performer in the Armenian youth theater in his hometown. After serving as a flight instructor during World War II , he attended acting classes at the Bessie V. Hicks School of Drama .

His career in film and television began with the first live broadcasts in the early 1950s; He first gained more attention in Dirty Laurel , where he played alongside Humphrey Bogart . He then played policemen, crooks or mafia killers on the screen as in TV series, such as in Man Called him Hombre , The Magnificent Seven , Columbo and On the Run , he was involved in around 100 movies and 300 television productions. He played his last role in 2004.

Avery often worked with John Cassavetes . In 1998 he starred in an off-Broadway play , Over the River and through the Woods .

Since 1953 he was married to the actress Margot Stevenson .
