A Man Defeats Fear is a black and white American film from 1956 starring John Cassavetes and Sidney Poitier . In the USA the film was released on January 29, 1957, in Germany on August 2 of the same year.
action
The wanted deserter Axel Nordmann takes a job under a false name in the port of New York, where a seedy foreman who knows about the deserter's past is paid dearly for his silence. Through his friendship with his black colleague Tommy Tyler, who defends him against the foreman and has to lose his life, the deserter Nordmann learns to face his fate. In doing so, he grows beyond himself.
